More River Calendars Paddle with the Pros - Sat, May 24, 2008 - Sun, May 25, 2008Memorial Day weekend there will be a series of kayak races and an outdoor BBQ dinner party on the beautiful South Fork of the American River, all to benefit First Descents, a kayak and outdoor experience for Young Adults with Cancer. Events include a boatercross race, men’s and women’s downriver races, a free roll clinic, a class III+ Poker Race, and an after-party with the pros (including Brad Ludden, Eric Jackson, Corey Nielsen and members of the Jackson Kayak Team). [email] [website] Coloma Blues Live! - Sat, Jun 7, 2008Enjoy an all-day blues festival with your family along the shore of the American River in the beautiful Coloma Valley. This year features Los Lobos, The Tommy Castro Band, Roy Rogers & the Delta Rhythm Kings, Albert Cummings, and Curtis Salgado. Tickets are $40 in advance, $45 at the gate, $10 for children 7-12. Children 6 and under are free. Net proceeds benefit the Arts in Education Programs of the El Dorado Arts Council, the Educational Programs at Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park, and the Town Beautification Project of the Coloma-Lotus Chamber of Commerce. Activities include a canyon run, mountain bike ride and climbing wall. Sponsored by PARC (Protect American River Canyons), a grassroots educational group dedicated to the preservation of the American River and its canyons. It's an opportunity to increase awareness of natural and cultural history of the American River watershed. [website] 56th Annual Jeepers Jamboree - Jul 24, 2008 - Aug 3, 2008Jeepers Jamboree off-road trips start in Georgetown, California. Vehicles travel the Rubicon Trail east over approximately 45 miles of paved and dirt roads, crossing the dam at Stumpy Meadows and the old cattleman's stop of Uncle Tom's Cabin.
