Current Adventures is having a Kid’s Kayaking Fun Fest planned at HLP on Saturday June 23rd 12pm-4pm as part of the American River Festival. The Cost is $15 per person. The plan is for all kids of all skill levels between the ages of 8 and 14 or so to be able to show up and get to paddle in a kayak that day.

·         We are also inviting their paddling parents or family members who want to participate to come and join in to help out with the group on the water or on land.

·         Current Adventures and The River Store will be providing the equipment for any and all participants that do not have their own gear to use. We will also have some of our experienced guides and instructors there to help facilitate and provide a full on opportunity for kids to get together and meet each other as well as to paddle and learn from our instructors and other paddlers.

·         We will be inviting all GCP/LPP/CFS members and other paddlers who have an interest in getting out there to help with the kids to join us for what promises to be a very fun day of paddling fun with the juniors.

·          Folks can bring their kids, their nieces and nephews and any kids they know who they think might be interested in checking out kayaking or who are already paddlers.

·         We plan to have a variety of different boats there for them to try, including slalom boats and a Topo Duo or two, along with a few gates and other fun games and options for them to participate in and learn from as well.

·          We have also talked to the Carlson River Board folks, and may be able to have them there that day for a bit of River Board demo fun. Watch for more details on the American River Festival website as well as the Current Adventures website as we get closer to the date.

If you are interested in participating in the ARF Kids event, please feel free to let me know by e-mailing me at Dan@Kayaking.com.

Our objectives for this event are to try to help involve more kids in the sport, and to get more “local” paddlers to come out for the festival this year by offering some new and different options to be involved in. We will also be inviting many of the several hundred kids that we put through our beginning and intermediate programs on Lake Natoma and the Lower American River each year, and hopefully some of them will be able to join us as well. We have done this type of event in the past, though it has been several years now, and it was always a great day of fun and excitement for everyone. At the time we had a local kid’s group that I worked with a lot that included Rusty Sage, Brooke and Ethan Winger and the Long boys as well as Thomas Baumann, Theo Michel, William and David Crenshaw and several other local kids. We are hoping to regenerate that type of environment and camaraderie for a new crop of kids and their parents, and it sounds like this past weekend’s get-together was also headed in that direction, so we’ll be happy to be involved!!.             Look forward to seeing you all at the American River Festival’s Kid’s Kayaking Fun Fest!! (<:

Cheers!

Current Adventures also has an existing Kid’s section on their website at www.kayaking.com where you can use it as a forum for kid’s outings and gear, etc.
